Since the last company (Comlet Technologies) I worked with closed its doors, I've been working with individual clients to create a custom web presence and to drive business and interest with unique content, social media platforms, and industry-specific, third-party tools.
In addition to that, I have returned to school to start a new path in which I can help others. (More on that hopefully to come.)
Comlet Technologies
Web design/development, user interface design/development, copywriting, project management
I met many great people while at Turning Point Publishing. One of those people was Bill. By asking to apply my skills to some businesses he was developing, Bill introduced me to even more great people and interesting opportunities. The first business was Silver Eagle Outfitters. The second was Comlet Technologies, LLC.
Among my duties at Comlet Technologies, I did the following:
▸ Designed, built, and managed the company’s marketing and instructional websites
▸ Collaborated with participating developers to define project specifications, functional requirements, and testing procedures.
▸ Participated in task planning and troubleshooting for the company’s patented communication/digital rights management software
▸ Integrated and marketed website development, web project management, and marketing services, adding new revenue opportunities for the company
▸ Served as liaison for contractors, accounting, legal counsel, and the owner regarding human resource- and patent-related situations
▸ Performed market research, created marketing plans, and was involved in creating the print and digital marketing efforts to target those markets
▸ Was responsible for most office/administrative duties, including telephone setup, business card and letterhead creation, assuming responsibility for the small-office network, and arranging building maintenance and repairs
Silver Eagle Outfitters
Web Project Management, Digital Marketing and Communications, Product Development, Order Fulfillment
Silver Eagle Outfitters manufactured cooling apparel using a patented evaporative cooling material. Since it was ideal for motorcyclists, pets, and anyone or anything with temperature mitigation issues, we served a variety of markets, requiring online and in-person efforts. As part of a small company, my role was pretty much whatever they needed me to be to keep the place going. But, one of the more lovely aspects of the job was being able to travel with Nancy, one of the company co-founders, all over the US to show off the product.
At Silver Eagle Outfitters, I was one of a handful of people. Many of us did many things, but below summarizes my primary tasks:
▸ Managed E-commerce solutions (Miva, BigCommerce, Google, and Amazon) for the company’s line of seasonal comfort apparel and created alternate websites for product information and marketing
▸ Assisted in expanding the product marketing and sales from the motorcycle market to many alternative markets, including health and pet products
▸ Managed social media marketing and communication, wrote and distributed press releases and product instructions, and published customer newsletters
▸ Participated in the planning, travel, shipping, setup, customer education, and sales at trade shows throughout the United States
▸ Provided product support and interfaced with customers and distributors directly, online, and on the phone
Turning Point Publishing
Advertising Account Manager
Once I came back to the US, I started work at Turning Point Publishing. Our primary product was a digital home tour. I was manager of the ads (project management, graphic design, copy-writing). I also wrote home tour descriptions and online and print manuals and help files. It was here, through the process of down-sizing prior the company's dissolution, that I learned to create websites.
While at Turning Point Publishing, I did the following:
▸ Initiated relationships with advertisers to explore text, graphics, and theme options for advertisements
▸ Designed and edited copy and graphical compositions for the company’s CD-ROM product
▸ Built company websites based on themes provided by the graphic design team
▸ Managed all advertiser-related billing procedures and income projections
▸ Wrote and edited much of the correspondence for company president and staff, as well as product descriptions, website copy, and company literature
▸ Developed and updated digital and printed help manuals for the company’s software
First Steps
Program Co-Coordinator
Through volunteering with different community programs in our little town of Bamberg, Germany, I became acquainted with a newly developing child abuse prevention/parenting education program. The program was dependent on volunteers to offer support and information to military families having children abroad, and it needed to get the word out a) to recruit volunteers and b) to remind the community that the progam was available. So, for me, it was a terrific fit. Eventually, I became co-manager of he program. But, the best part was the great group of families I got to know from being there.
▸ Developed new training strategies, lesson plans, practical exercises, and evaluations for the First Steps Program and its participating volunteers, ranging from three to twenty members
▸ Visited parents of newborns in the German hospital and served as liaison between families and the services available in the military community
▸ Performed briefings to high-ranking military personnel
▸ Researched, created, and distributed a monthly newsletter and performed radio spots and public speaking engagements to explain and promote the program, as well as to recruit volunteers
▸ Arranged and helped prepare parent education and child development training as outreach for families in the community
▸ Managed community facility and property, including scheduling family support group use of the building
